A unique educational philosophy

“We want to foster an education that equips students with the skills and mindset needed to navigate their ever-changing future. We aim to provide an educational environment where curiosity, creativity, communication and critical thinking thrive through the use of technology, the development of both the English and Nepali languages, along with the development of children’s skills and confidence within an interactive, caring and safe classroom.”
Teaching and Learning Philosophy at Heartland Academy Palpa
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
William Butler Yeats

We aim to create a transformative educational environment that goes beyond conventional learning. Our teachers help ignite a passion for learning among our students, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected. They empower our students to contribute to both their local community and the broader country.

Heartland Academy Palpa staff collaborate closely with their colleagues at Heartland Academy Kathmandu and our Australian CLCR partners. By pooling our expertise and experience, we focus on cultivating staff autonomy and ensuring the sustainability of our educational efforts.

Our approach is characterised by integrity, respect, and professionalism. We are committed to a shared vision of our “Dream Project” to enhance educational opportunities in the Palpa region, driven by a genuine desire to impact positively on our students’ lives. Together, we are working towards creating a nurturing learning environment where every student can thrive and succeed.

Meet our Principal, Hemraj Dawadi

principal

I am delighted to reach out to you with our grown-up shape and size of the CLCR core theme “Creating opportunity through education in Nepal”, and furthermore their extended project such as this dream project, Heartland Academy Palpa.

Jagbadi is in a remote area and lacks many facilities. We have just under 110 students (Ashad 2081) and 14 teachers and staff. We are making a new building for students and the community. The school is from Nursery to Class Six. A number of students receive a 100% scholarship from Australian sponsors. Most of the local community are Magars.

Our school’s curriculum has a more practical-based educational system. We have a daily lesson plan, regular update, and co-operation among all staff – “All for each and each for all”. Teachers manage classrooms well, use technology in their lessons, and explore the children’s ability via a personal, caring approach. Children are active, build their skills and develop moral values of character and discipline. We believe in the holistic development of our children.

We have an annual program of professional development for teachers at Heartland Academy, Kathmandu, with the support of CLCR Australia.

I consider myself very lucky to be a part of this dream project with CLCR Australia. They are very supportive as we go ahead and we will be pleased to see them here and show our happy life and journey.

A culture of continuous learning

Professional Development of teachers in Nepal is not a priority – often teachers begin their teaching career with no previous training or qualification. We are on a mission to change that for our teachers, along with those from other schools in the area.

Partnering with the expert teachers at Heartland Academy Kathmandu, which has been under CLCR guidance for 15 years, our teachers are learning contempory approaches to education – how children best learn, how to engage children, to create a safe, nurturing environment, to value children’s voices and develop their potential to be active, competent and contributing members of Nepali society
